In 2025, the Nigerian maritime industry (the “Industry”) witnessed a new era that championed eventful highlights such as: Nigeria’s re-election into the International Maritime Organization (“IMO”) Council after a fourteen (14)-year absence; zero piracy streak three for over (3) years; operationalization of the Cabotage Vessel Financing Fund (“CVFF”); compliance requirements for shipping companies; enaction of forward-thinking policies and the introduction of new bill set to further improve the Industry, as well as enhanced research and development studies to train and equip future mariners, among others. These events are extensively discussed below.
The Shipping and Oil Services Team of Bloomfield LP (“Bloomfield”) had a very engaging and, indeed, rewarding year, due to the volume of business activities conducted by our clients.
With our dedicated team of experts, Bloomfield advised its clients, who are stakeholders in the maritime sector, and guided them through the routine and complex shipping transactions they undertook during the year. These transactions include the acquisition of world-class vessels by a Nigerian oil servicing company to provide offshore support to oil and gas projects in Nigeria.
